Justin Tadlock is very excited about the Block Bindings API, even in its current state. He released a detailed tutorial on how to use it to create a Book Review site. When I looked over the tutorial it seems painful. Perhaps his approach would make sense for someone creating an enterprise or high priced build for a client. However, from an end-user’s point of view, this looks like a non-starter. Am I wrong? Of course, it is published on the developer blog.

Here is an interesting development, MicroThemer now has deep integration with Gutenberg. Here is a video showing how it works.

Drupal is planning their site builder solution and this discussion talks about their considerations for using Gutenberg. It is interesting to see how they evaluate the user experiences, goals, and where Gutenberg doesn’t fit into that vision … kind of along the lines of critiques of our Site Builder.

Reusable and overrideable patterns are currently available in the Gutenberg plugin and scheduled for WordPress 6.6 in July. Here is a demo of this feature.

Work is beginning on WordPress 6.6 and there was a “Hallway Hangout” today going over some of the work being done on Gutenberg and the Site Editor.

On Wednesday there was a “Hallway Hangout” to discuss using the Site Editor for client sites. Here is a recap summary and the video recording. From the recap it looks like a number of pain points were identified.

The latest version of the Gutenberg plugin, 17.8, includes basic grid support. This version of Gutenberg (and this feature) won’t be in 6.5.
