The author, Jono Alderson, talks about platforms trying to quickly pull in customers, but customers will eventually find these platforms limiting. Of course I can see the flexibility of WordPress, but I don’t agree with the author that all of the messiness of WordPress is a feature.

An article from Joost looking at innovation in WordPress, and specifically at plugins. Some interesting findings, suggesting I think that innovation is declining (?). The article doesn’t mention premium plugins as a locus for innovation.

As someone who used to make code custom websites, this article does not seem to be informed by experience. For a start, it seems to assume that a custom website doesn’t require ongoing regular maintenance. A “template website” is equated with WordPress, which is mentioned over and over.

I’ve noticed a growing trend away from Facebook groups and towards online communities, whether hosted on Circle or now increasingly on WordPress. I take a look at this trend in the latest issue of the WP Perspectives newsletter.
