Security issue – MalCare, BlogVault, and WPRemote apparently store some credentials unencrypted in the database which isn’t a best practice. Reported to them about 3 months ago by Calvin Alkan. Apparently WP Umbrella had a similar issue that was fixed in a day or two.

Fines in Europe over the use of Google Analytics! Last week there was a post from the SEO Slim team on Google Analytics alternatives. These court judgements remind me of the findings not too long ago about Google fonts, which lead many to start self-hosting them.

The Core Framework is a new toolkit for creating and customizing your own CSS framework. There is a UI for generating CSS classes and variables and there is a WordPress plugin. At launch the Core Framework has WordPress extensions for Gutenberg, Bricks, and Oxygen. This video is a first look at the features and a quick test using the Gutenberg and Bricks extensions.

WordPress (finally) drops support for PHP 5. Beginning with WordPress 6.3, the minimum required version will be 7.0 and 7.4 will be the recommended version.
